Prelim Task 10 - Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? 

My media product that I have created uses forms of real media products, it was mostly inspired from my magazine analysis of covers 3 and 4 this was Atlanta school guide and chs school magazine as I felt they were the most affective and professional magazine covers.



I used the ideas which try to reflect the magazine cover as exciting and eye-catching, I showed this by using bright colours to represent a positive image of the cover. Furthermore tried to make my masthead dominating over the cover to create a bold masthead. My main aim was to try and create a welcoming magazine, I used the idea of creating a focal point image like both of these magazines, the first one fades the background so that the student becomes the center of attention, in my magazine I used text and objects to surround the student in order to create a focal point. In addition created text boxes of a low opacity to create subtlety and add to being inviting. I used the effect of encouraging the audience to buy the magazine by making them think they are getting more value for their money, i took this idea from Atlanta school guide magazine where they use the plus sign (+) and added it into my final product; this also engages with the audience as many of the younger audience use this as slang.


From my questionnaire I found out that many people did not like the idea of oranges or yellows being on the front cover of the magazine however challenged this as I believed that both of these colors are eye-catching, furthermore are used vastly in the real media products that I analysed.
